We recognize that there is a growing need in our communities to make physical activity a priority in the lives of Canadian children. Research has proven that participation in sports and recreation increases a child’s chance of success in life through:
o A healthier lifestyle
o Increased self-esteem and confidence
o The opportunity to learn important leadership skills
o Improved school performance and future education expectations
o More positive relationships and strengthened support networks
Additionally, research has indicated that 1 in 3 Canadian families cannot afford to place their children in sport and recreation activities because of financial barriers (Ipsos Reid, 2005).
We at Canadian Tire have seen the need and have taken up the challenge to help provide Canadian children in financial need with the opportunity to participate in sport and recreation through Canadian Tire Jumpstart so they can develop essential life skills, self-esteem and confidence.
Launched in 2005 by Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities (formerly the Canadian Tire Foundation for Families), Canadian Tire Jumpstart is a charitable program to help kids in financial need participate in organized sports and recreation such as hockey, dance, soccer and swimming. The program covers costs such as registration fees, transportation and equipment.
National in scope but local in its focus, Canadian Tire Jumpstart delivers support through a Canadian-wide network of local chapters. There are currently 279 Jumpstart Chapters in communities across Canada.
Canadian Tire Jumpstart helps more than 50,000 children annually get in the game. For more information, or to donate, please visit: www.canadiantire.ca/jumpstart
