Eating Disorders of York Region (EDOYR) is a registered not-for-profit charitable organization founded in 2004 by a group of parents whose lives were touched by Eating Disorders and who were concerned with the lack of attention this illness receives. We rely on the support of our community to enable us to continue offering free support and guidance to all those who are affected by eating disorders.
Our Vision: To offer hope and support in a non-judgmental and confidential way to people affected by eating disorders as well as their family and friends. Our Mission: To give support to all those who are affected by eating disorders; To give hope for recovery;
To enlighten the community’s awareness and understanding of eating disorders; To provide education for early detection and prevention of eating disorders. Eating Disorders are complex conditions that are unhealthy coping strategies adopted to help individuals deal with underlying stresses that are too difficult or painful to approach head on. Eating Disorders are often about control and can signal an individual’s difficulty with identity, self-concept and self-esteem. The illness crosses all social and cultural boundaries and affects men and women of different racial, cultural and economic backgrounds. Eating Disorders are devastating, life-threatening illnesses that have severe physical and psychological ramifications for individuals and their families.
